Pick by what you want to ask
All four methods do the same job. The server stays closed until a member gets through the one you chose. What changes is what the member is asked to do, so start from that:
- A single click, with nothing to type → Button.
- A word that only the people you gave it to know → Password.
- A code to read from an image and type back → Captcha Premium.
- Questions about your rules or your community → Quiz Premium.
The method only matters on a server that is already closed behind it. You can change method at any time, as shown at the end of this guide.
Password, a word only your people know
You pick a word, and people have to type it to get into the server. When someone clicks Verify, the bot asks for it, and they get the role only if it matches. You can choose whether the bot shows the word or keeps it to itself.
Shown: the bot writes the password in the verification screen, so anyone who can see the verification channel can read it and type it. This is the lightest setting, one small step above a single click.
Hidden: the bot does not display it. You distribute it wherever you want, behind a paid membership, in another server or at the end of a rules video, so that only the people you gave it to can get in.
Password shown
Password hidden
Limits: 3 to 16 characters. The password is case-sensitive by default, and you can turn that off.
Captcha, a code to read and type
The bot generates an image with a code inside it, and the member types what they read. Every attempt uses a new image, so a code that has already been shared around is of no use on the next attempt.
Use it when you want a real step at the door but have nothing to distribute in advance. There is no word to share and no questions to write, so it works on a server that anyone can find.
Quiz, questions about your server
You write a set of questions, and the bot asks a few of them at random every time a member verifies. It suits questions about your rules (“where do introductions go?”), about your server or community, or general questions that your kind of member would know.
Questions and answers appear in a different order every time, so members cannot pass by memorising their positions or copying someone else. You can choose how many correct answers are required to pass (the default is all of them), and correct answers are not shown after a wrong attempt.
Limits: your pool holds up to 30 questions, and the bot asks up to 5 of them each time (you choose how many, never more than the pool contains). Each question can have up to 4 answers. A question is 10 to 150 characters, and each answer up to 100.
How to switch method
The method is set in /settings → Verification → Method. You can change it at any time: the verification panel updates in place, so there is nothing to post again.
The
Premium marks Captcha and Quiz. They appear in the list on every plan, but stay locked until the server is Premium. The other two work on the free plan. See what Premium adds.
